The Research Software London Community

The community is aimed at individuals involved in building or working with research software from a development, research or systems perspective. We’re an open community and anyone interested in the community’s mission or activities is welcome to join up and get involved. Whether you consider yourself to be an experienced Research Software Engineer or a researcher who is new to software development and interested to grow your skills in this area, we hope the community will have something to offer you.

We maintain strong links with the wider UK RSE Community while focusing on offering local activities and events to support individuals within the London/South East region.

Community Mission

Our community mission is to help empower researchers and developers based at institutions in London and the South East of the UK to build better quality, more sustainable and maintainable research software. We aim to help develop a stronger understanding of how software and best practices in its development can support more sustainable, reproducible and verifiable research outputs. Ultimately we believe this can lead to higher-quality, more effective research outputs.

In addition, we aim to help foster collaboration across institutions and domains to support our members in developing new multidisciplinary, software-related research opportunities.

Community Activities

The community is just getting started and more information will appear on this website as the community develops. However, we have plans to offer a variety of activities to support our members. These include:

  • Technical talks covering a wide variety of domains and technical topics
  • An annual Research Software London workshop, beginning with RSLondon 2019 in early 2019
  • Intermediate and advanced level training workshops to help you build your software development skills
  • Introductory software development support sessions providing tips, ideas and support with specific software development questions
  • Community-building facilitated networking sessions for developers and researchers

Ultimately we want the community to provide the kind of activities that you, our members, want to see. If you have ideas for events that you’d like to see us run or feedback on previous events, please get in touch at contact@rslondon.ac.uk
